Upper Monroe Neighborhood

Upper Monroe is the epitome of city living. Situated about a mile and a half from downtown Rochester in the 14608 zip code, Upper Monroe residents get the experience of living in the city while nestling in a quiet area.

The two greatest qualities of the Upper Monroe area are the sense of community, and the appreciation for natural beauty that the residents have. There are a number of parks in Upper Monroe, including Cobbs Hill Park and Highland Park. Cobbs Hill contains the Cobbs Hill reservoir, many trails for hiking, rollerblading and just getting outside. Highland Park is the host for the annual Lilac Festival that is held each spring.

Community is very important to the residents of Upper Monroe. Each spring there is a community clean up project in which all the residents get together and clean up trash and other debris that builds up during the winter. There are also community block parties during which the neighbors can get together and meet one another.

The architecture of the area really reinforces the history of the Rochester area. Most of the homes are American Foursquare and Colonial Revival homes that were built in the 1910s and 1920s. There is even a Claude Bragdon home in the area, in which residents take great pride.

The people of Upper Monroe tend to be better off financially and tend to be slightly older than those who live in the heart of Rochester just a couple of miles away. Upper Monroe is also only a couple of miles away from Pittsford, NY, which is one of the most affluent suburbs of Rochester.
