Westvale Neighborhood

Nestled in the western part of the city of Syracuse, New York, Westvale is a neighborhood comprised of mostly single-family homes. Westvale is a medium- sized area that is near other neighborhoods including Fairmount to the west, Solvay to the north, and Westside and Southside off to the east.

Westvale features numerous parks in the area which give its residence ample green space to enjoy. Burnet Park is the largest park in terms of space in the city. It also includes the Rosamond Gifford Zoo within its confines. Geddes Athletic field, Gertrude Street, and Shove Park are also located close to Westvale. Also of interest is the State Fairgrounds, which are only a couple of miles to the north and house the New York State Fair each year.

There are many choices when it comes to public schools. Elementary selections include Cherry Road, Walberta Park, and Solvay. Middle School possibilities include Syracuse Academy of Sciences, Southside Academy Charter School, and James A. Shea. Two of these middle schools also house a high school as well including those being Solvay and Syracuse Academy of Sciences. The other two high schools are Westhill Senior and OCM Boces Alternative School.

There are two shopping centers in the area: Fairmont Fair Shopping Plaza and the Carousel Center. Most of the big name stores can be found around Westvale, including Target, Marshalls, Walmart, and Dicks. Plenty of medical facilities are a short distance away. Hospitals such as St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, University Hospital, and Crouse are ready to serve residents.

There are seven museums within four miles of Westvale, and throughout the year The Fairgrounds host many other events for residents. Also, Onondaga Lake is available for warm-weather fun.
