Tully, NY Apartments for Rent

With its famed lakes scattered along the southwest side and state forests to the southeast, Tully’s natural resources are plentiful. Rent an apartment in Tully and you may feel as though you are living in a quaint country town, but you’ll only be about 18 miles from downtown Syracuse.

First settled in 1795, Tully has a fascinating history that includes how it was named. Tully is part of the Central New York Military Tract – roughly two million acres of land that was used to compensate New York’s Revolutionary War soldiers. The responsibility of naming the areas fell to the surveyors. One of the surveyors was a professor at Kings College. Being a classical scholar, he named the areas he surveyed after famous Romans and Greeks. When he arrived to present-day Tully, he chose the famous figure Marcus Tullius Cicero as the inspiration for the town’s name.

Beautiful Tully Lake Park has been drawing visitors to the area since 1889, when the first hotel and cottage were built. The Tully Lakes are six glacial lakes clustered together. These lakes have long been valued for their natural beauty, and although the hotels are gone, the lakes still draw visitors who enjoy kayaking, canoeing, boating, biking, hiking, and swimming.

The hills and slopes of Tully – ideal for skiing – make a beautiful setting for your next apartment. The hillsides hold another fascination: Tully Limestone. This unique limestone holds fossil species that can’t be found anywhere else in the country. Nearby Heilberg Memorial Forest, which is owned by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, serves as an outdoor classroom and experimental station. Visitors are allowed to visit the forest and enjoy the unmarked hiking trails and fish-stocked ponds.
