Eagle Lake Neighborhood

The sprawling lots and mature trees of Eagle Lake give this established west Charlotte neighborhood a wooded, natural atmosphere. Eagle Lake was developed primarily in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and it now has more than 1,000 houses, condos, apartments and duplexes. Many homes have at least three bedrooms and are built on sizable lots, some larger than one acre.

Houses in Eagle Lake range from traditional brick ranches to cozy split-levels. Many homes have sun rooms or large decks, taking advantage of spacious, shady backyards. Eagle Lake encompasses ZIP code 28217, and the neighborhood is bordered by West Boulevard on the north and South Tryon Street on the southeast.

Eagle Lake’s proximity to I-77 and I-85 make it an easy commute to several Charlotte-area business centers, including uptown Charlotte, Fort Mill, SouthPark, Gastonia and north Charlotte. It is also close to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and to stops along the city’s light rail line, a popular transportation option for people who work in uptown Charlotte.

Several regional attractions are a short drive from Eagle Lake, including the Billy Graham Library, known for its peaceful ambiance and beautiful Christmas decorations. Nearby City Park, the former site of the Charlotte Coliseum, is under development, with plans for a town square, retails shops and walking and mountain biking trails. Fishermen enjoy Eagle Lake, a private lake where people can angle for catfish, bass and bluegill with permission or accompanied by a fishing club member.

The nearby 82-acre Marion Diehl Recreation Center has a paved walking trail, outdoor playground and a 25-meter pool. Amay James Park features a walking trail, a basketball court, two tennis courts and outdoor shelters.
