Biltmore South Neighborhood

The Biltmore South neighborhood in Asheville is located in the southeastern portion of the city among gently rolling hills and lush greenery.

Built in the mid 1900s, the neighborhood features a mixture of established ranch-style and two-story homes. With its proximity to Route 25 and Route 40, Biltmore South allows easy access to all areas of Asheville.

Most of the buildings within the neighborhood are residential, but there are other buildings intertwined within its streets. The Biltmore Church of Christ on Fairview Street has been in the Biltmore South neighborhood for years and is within walking distance for many of the neighborhood’s residents. Because of the hilliness of the terrain, there are few sidewalks, so most residents drive Biltmore’s streets.

While Biltmore South homes are secluded, the neighborhood borders the Biltmore Estate, one of North Carolina’s most famous attractions. The 8000-acre estate was once the home of George Vanderbilt and is now open to the public. Visitors can tour the famous mansion, as well as Antler Hill Village. As part of the Estate, Antler Hill features a winery, museum, tavern, and farm. Musicians are frequently invited to perform at the Village Green, a large park-like grassy area located within the Village. The Biltmore Estate also offers activities for outdoor enthusiasts such as carriage rides, Segway tours, and guided horseback trail riding.

Biltmore Village is directly outside of the Biltmore Estate. Homes here were built in the late 1890s. The Biltmore Village takes a step back in time with painted houses, tree-lined brick streets, restaurants, and boutiques.

In direct contrast to Biltmore Village, the descendents of the Vanderbilt Family have developed Biltmore Park in the same vicinity as a planned living community. Biltmore Park offers luxury condos and townhomes within walking distance of grocery stores, coffee shops, boutiques, and offices.

Overall, Biltmore South offers the best of many worlds — green natural areas, history, and tourist attractions, all mixed within an urban setting.
