Charlotte Street Neighborhood

Charlotte Street in Asheville runs in a north-south direction from College Street/Route 74 on the south and ends in the middle of Grove Park-Sunset on the north. The city of Ashville and Charlotte Street are part of Buncombe County in North Carolina.

Charlotte Street, in the 28801 zip code, crosses Interstate 240 on its southern end and leads residents to the northeastern portion of the city. The North Carolina State Government Center and the Pack Square Conservancy are in this section. The Ashville Art Museum is just south of the junction of Charlotte Street and College Street.

Heading northward, Charlotte Street provides an excellent mix of residential and business properties. Restaurants and small shops are located alongside homes with mature trees. Sidewalks make pedestrian travel easy. Route 25 runs parallel to Charlotte Street, just to the west. Weaver Park is located just east of Route 25. Mullen Park and the University of North Carolina-Asheville are to the west of Charlotte Street and Route 25.

The Grove Park Country Club Golf Course at the northern end of Charlotte Street includes the Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa. This area is surrounded by the Proximity Park Historic District and the Grove Park Historic District. Scottish golf course designer Donald Ross redesigned the original golf course in 1913. In 1926, the clubhouse was designated as an Asheville Local Historic Landmark.

The Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County is located on Charlotte Street. The Asheville Historic Trolley is available for a tour of the area, including Charlotte Street. Much of the area has been preserved to provide a romantic old town setting.
