Briarcreek – Woodland Neighborhood

Briarcreek-Woodland is a neighborhood in Charlotte North Carolina. The borders of the neighborhood are East Independence Boulevard on the south, Eastway Drive on the east, Central Avenue north and the west boundary is a creek.

Central Avenue has a Shell Gas Station and lots of local businesses either in free standing buildings or small strip malls. There are also several apartment complexes. East of Briarcreek Central Avenue moves to single family homes and then back to commercial again. There are lots of restaurants and St. Andrew Episcopal Church. The corner where Eastway Drive meets Central Avenue is very busy.

Eastway Drive has a county office building at the north end of the neighborhood. The Eastway Shopping Center offers shoppers a wide variety of stores in a large outdoor style mall. There is a Walmart, Payless Shoes, Pizza Hut and a Food Lion Grocery Store. As the street heads south it becomes less commercial and more residential. There are many smaller brick homes.

East Independence Boulevard is a four lane, very commercial street: more of a highway with local access. It turns into Andrew Jackson Highway about halfway through Sweetbriar-Woodland.

What is a surprise about the Briarcreek-Woodland neighborhood is that while the streets that make up the borders are very commercial the smaller streets within the neighborhood have a very rural feeling with lots of large trees and small individual homes on spacious lots. There are no sidewalks on some streets as they are quite narrow.

Resurrection Christian School is located on Commonwealth Avenue and is affiliated with the Resurrection Lutheran Church. It has classes for grades Pre-K to grade 12 and has under 100 students with a student teacher ratio of 1 to 6.

There is a little of everything in the Briarcreek-Woodland neighborhood. Plenty of shopping, apartments and many single family homes.
