Eastway Neighborhood

Eastway is a picturesque, moderately populated neighborhood of Charlotte. Eastway Drive serves as the western border of the community, and Albemarle Road is its eastern boundary. Eastway is bordered to the north by Central Avenue and to the south by East Independence Boulevard. With an area of 1.739 square miles, it has a population of just over 5,000 residents.

More than a third of the homes in Eastway are single-family, detached houses of varying styles, while around half of the residential buildings are apartment complexes or condo buildings. There are also townhouses and attached units in the community.

Eastway is a prime place to live for those who love to shop. Three major shopping centers are within the neighborhood or just beyond its borders and within walking distance. Amity Gardens Shopping Center, with its new Walmart and other popular stores, is just to the south of Eastway. The Eastway Shopping Center is at the northwest corner of the community. Darby Acres Shopping Center is just to its north.

The community of Eastway is also family-friendly. Oakhurst Elementary School, which is known for excellent academics and its unusual weekly seminars, is only a half mile to the southwest of the center of Eastway. Eastway Middle School is just to the north of the neighborhood. Other great area schools within walking distance include Winterfield Elementary School, East Mecklenburg High School, and Heritage Christian School.

Evergreen Cemetery is located within the Eastway neighborhood. Classic film actress Abigail Adams is buried in the cemetery. Notable Congressman Hamilton Chamberlain Jones was also laid to rest there. It is well kept, and walkers sometimes respectfully walk on the grounds.
