Elizabeth Neighborhood

The highly desirable neighborhood of Elizabeth is on the east side of Charlotte, North Carolina. A large portion of this historic neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Craftsman-style homes were built during the late 1800s, soon after a small Lutheran college for women opened in 1897. The neighborhood built up around the college, and a streetcar line soon followed.

Elizabeth is a trendy, upscale area with tall, mature trees and quiet streets. Independence Park, Charlotte’s oldest park, is located in Elizabeth. Independence Park contains rose and perennial gardens, a gazebo, picnic areas, and a playground. Elizabeth is home to two large hospitals, Presbyterian Hospital and Mercy Hospital. Kings College, founded in 1901, is also located in the Elizabeth neighborhood.
