Outer East Durham Neighborhood

Durham, North Carolina, also known as the “City of Medicine,” is located north of Chapel Hill and Raleigh. Located in Durham County, the city is home to about 225,000 people and sprawls over 299-square miles. Three institutes are central to Durham, including the well-known private college, Duke University. North Carolina University and Durham Technical Community College can also be found within Durham.

Outer East Durham is a large area to the east of Highway 70. It is very convenient to North Carolina Central University and Downtown Durham. If you are looking at apartments in East Durham, consider the neighborhoods of Cedar Hills, Hidden Hollow, Joyland, Chandler/Breedlove, Oak Grove, and Shaw Hills. All of these communities are convenient to Wake Forest Parkway, which leads directly to Downtown Durham.

C.R. Woods Park is located in the area and features a basketball court, ball field, picnic areas, a fountain, a playground, and a community center. Wellons Village Shopping Center, Durham Technical Community College, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and William B. Umstead State Park are all within a short drive of Outer East Durham.

Umstead State Park spans more than 5,000 acres and features 13 miles of equestrian trails and 20 miles of hiking trails. The park also contains three lakes, ideal for fishing, rowboats, and canoes. Northgate Park is a local dog park featuring separate areas for large and small dogs.
