College Park Neighborhood

Life in College Park can feel like moving back through time, as this well-loved neighborhood is home to many original residents or their descendants. Many of the quaint houses were built between 1920 and 1960, and some of the first residents were professors at nearby St. Augustine’s College. The neighborhood is valued for its affordable cottage-style homes and great location near downtown Raleigh.

The lots of College Park are lined with giant trees, some more than 100 years old. The neighborhood is home to many traditions, such as neighborhood ice cream and vegetable salesmen, the annual St. Augustine’s College homecoming parade that passes through College Park, and daily chimes from the college chapel. College Park has an active neighborhood association, and residents regularly host neighborhood get-togethers and activities.

College Park encompasses ZIP codes 27601 and 27610. The neighborhood is bordered by Oakwood Avenue on the north, Heck Street on the west, New Bern Avenue on the south and Raleigh Boulevard on the east. St. Augustine’s College is to the north of College Park.

Residents of College Park enjoy Raleigh’s urban life and being close to museums, downtown shopping, universities, city parks and restaurants. Meredith College, N.C. State University, Peace College and Shaw University, all of which offer community activities and programs, are within a 10-minute drive. WakeMed Health and Hospitals is two miles east on New Bern Avenue.

Several city pocket parks are within walking distance of College Park. Roberts Park has a picnic area, tennis courts, baseball field and playground and hosts adult volleyball leagues. Oakwood Dog Park provides a shaded area where dogs can be off the leash.
