Village West has a sizable collection of condos and apartments, and also has the distinction of being next to West Acres Shopping Center. It’s about a five-block walk to shop at Sears, take in a movie at West Acres Cinema 14, and then have dinner at Chili’s. Head north on Interstate 29 to Hector International Airport or south to Prairiewood Golf Course. The community is about two miles west of downtown Fargo via Interstate 94 on the neighborhood’s northern border.

The bits and pieces of land that were to become Village West were annexed to Fargo between 1975 and 1979. As the development grew, it took on the appearance of a city within a city. Housing comprises apartments and condos almost exclusively. It is high-density, artsy, urban, and sophisticated.

Village West also has one of the city’s two dog parks, the Village West Dog Park. It offers separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, doggie water fountains, and benches for the humans. It is part of Village West Park on the western end of the neighborhood. This park has a baseball diamond, basketball court, hiking trails, and restrooms. During the winter, the city puts up an ice-skating and hockey rink.

Schools nearby include Dakota Montessori School on Westrac Drive South, Sister Rosalind Gefre School on Fiechner Drive South, and West Fargo High on Ninth Street East. The Meadowridge Bible Chapel on Second Avenue East is half a block west of the neighborhood. Holy Cross Catholic Church, on 16th Street East, is a block southwest. The MAT bus service has stops along 38th Street South and then loops into Village West along Ninth Avenue South.
