Fargo at a Glance
Willow Park, located southwest of downtown Fargo, is a mixed-use residential and commercial neighborhood. The east end running along 45th Street South and the northern border along 13th Avenue Southwest comprise its commercial zones. Restaurants like Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse can be found here, along with major-name stores like Kohl’s and Toys R Us. The community’s extensive MAT transit system makes it easy to get from one end of Fargo to the other.
Residential development started to pick up in the mid-1990s. Offerings include single-family homes, duplexes, townhouses, and apartment complexes. The Willow Park playground is in the northwestern corner of the neighborhood. This three-block-long park has a baseball diamond, basketball court, hiking and biking paths, and picnic tables.
Cheney Middle School on 17th Avenue East is on the western edge of the neighborhood. West Fargo High, on Ninth Street East, is about a mile to the northwest, and Eastwood Elementary, on 10th Avenue East, is a half mile west. The Lutheran Church of the Cross and Holy Cross Catholic Church are both on 16th Street East on the northern border. A half mile to the west is Flame of Faith United Methodist Church, on Sixth Street East.
Prairiewood Golf Course is a mile east via Interstate 94. That same road leads to downtown Fargo and the fishing spots along the Red River. The jogging trails and baseball diamonds of Anderson Park are a half mile southwest, along 45th Street South. Though the closest shops, restaurants, and services are in Willow Park’s industrial area, West Acres Shopping Center is only a half mile west. It offers a 14-screen movie theater, big-name stores that include Macy’s and JC Penny, and a food court.
