Kennesaw State University - Kennesaw, GA

Kennesaw State University, also referred to as KSU, is a public, coeducational, comprehensive university located approximately 20 miles north of Atlanta in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Its current enrollment of 23,452 students makes KSU the third-largest university in Georgia. The university is well known for academic programs in business, education, nursing and criminal justice.

The story of KSU is one of phenomenal growth. Founded in 1963 as a junior college, the school began a period of rapid advancement in the 1980s, including expanded offerings and on-campus residential housing.

In 1985, KSU initiated its first graduate degree programs, and in 1990, the university’s Coles College of Business offered the nation’s first degree program in professional sales, which is today ranked among the best. By 2008, the school had won approval the state university system’s only doctorate degree in Business Administration. That same year, for the first time, US News and World Report included KSU on its list of 70 “Up-and-Coming” schools, the only Georgia institution to achieve such ranking.

KSU’s Computer Science and Information Systems department hosts the Center for Election Systems, which certifies the direct recording electronic machines used in Georgia elections and trains local elections officials.

Notable alumni include Ty Pennington, host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition; Kandice Pelletier, Miss New York 2005; and Mac Powell, lead singer of the contemporary Christian band “Third Day.” Notable professors and scholars include Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives; Bob Barr, former US Congressman; and Rhubarb Jones, actor and radio disc jockey.
