Established in 1873 by the Congregationalist Church, Drury University began as Springfield College, a small school located on a one-and-a-half-acre campus in northern Springfield. Today, this private liberal arts university has grown to an 88-acre campus. The college was granted university status in 2000.
Drury University offers students over 70 majors, including business, communications, computer science, biology, marketing, architecture, and religion. The university enrolls about 5,400 students and has several branch campuses. More than half of the students study abroad in short and long-term programs. Students enrolled in the Breech School of Business or the Hammons School of Architecture are required to study abroad.
Springfield apartments are plentiful, and it isn’t difficult to find a place to rent near Drury University. Look in the Midtown area, just north of downtown. Grant Beach, Woodland Heights, and Robberson are also great nearby neighborhoods. The university is located just off I-44 (East Chestnut Expressway) between North Benton Avenue and North National Avenue.
