Located on nearly 1,000 acres of heavily-wooded, rolling hills, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (also known as UNC Charlotte and UNCC) is a gorgeous campus with several man-made lakes and two gardens. UNC Charlotte was established in 1946 and has a total of three campuses, including the Charlotte Research Institute Campus and Center City Campus. This is the largest university in the Charlotte region, offering 20 doctoral, 63 master’s, and 90 bachelor’s degree programs across nine colleges.
As an urban research institution, UNCC enrolls more than 26,000 students. The 49ers participate in NCAA Division I in 16 varsity sports, including football, baseball, and basketball. The baseball team plays at Hayes Stadium, the basketball teams at Halton Arena, and the football team plays at Jerry Richardson Stadium – a new stadium that opened August 2013.
Since the main campus is only 10 miles from Uptown Charlotte, it is easily accessible from many apartments in Charlotte. Public transportation includes bus service and light rail, perfect for students choosing to live off-campus.
When selecting your apartment near UNC Charlotte, be sure to check out some of the northeastern neighborhoods around UNCC, such as Newell South, Mineral Springs, and Harris-Houston.
