In 1821, Widener University began as a preparatory school called the Bullock School for Boys. It was located in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1858, it became Delaware Military Academy, and four years later it was moved to Pennsylvania where it was renamed Pennsylvania Military Academy. While it became a college in 1862, it wasn’t until 1972 that Widener University became the private university that it is today.
