A private, liberal arts college in Tacoma, the University of Puget Sound offers more than 40 degree programs, including doctoral programs. It is one of only five independent colleges in the Northwest to have a Phi Beta Kappa charter. The University of Puget Sound was established in 1888 by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Puget Sound Loggers participate in NCAA Division III Northwest Conference. There are 23 varsity sports teams, including football, baseball, basketball, and soccer. Facilities include Baker Stadium and Memorial Fieldhouse. The school colors are maroon and white.
