Detroit-Shoreway Neighborhood

As the city of Cleveland reinvents itself, there’s so much activity and positive spirit. Nowhere will visitors find that spirit expressed as vividly as in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood, one of Cleveland’s coolest, most diverse communities along the north coast.

With new residents moving in, new businesses and theatres opening and a rush of renovation of its historic buildings, this neighborhood is quickly becoming “the” place to live, work and play. Residents boast that Detroit Shoreway is the premier lakefront neighborhood in northeast Ohio, offering easy access to Lake Erie, downtown Cleveland and the emerging Gordon Square Arts District; affordable housing rich in architectural style; and a wide array of amenities such as transportation options and excellent private schools.

Housing options range from lakefront flats and condominiums at Battery Park, modern townhomes and small cottages to historic Victorian mansions. Affordable rental housing options include artist live-work spaces, subsidized housing for seniors and the disabled and renovated single-family homes.

The Gordon Square Arts District has emerged as the trendy destination point for entertainment, business and recreational pursuits. New and remodeled theaters, unique restaurants, hip night clubs and art galleries make up this vibrant, urban commercial area.

The neighborhood’s motto is, “A neighborhood with a view, a community with a vision.” That view would be the lakefront. Adjacent Lake Erie and Edgewater State Park offer amenities that include a fishing pier, swimming beaches, beach concessions, bike trails, seasonal dock rentals and boat launch ramps. In the winter, the park is transformed into a great place to sled, ice fish and cross-country ski.

The Detroit Avenue restaurant scene includes such trendy eateries as Roseangel and LUXE Kitchen & Lounge. Try the Gypsy Beans & Baking Company for a Crab & Asparagus Flatbread lunch, followed by an Amazon Chili Pepper Brownie.
