Gateway Neighborhood
The Gateway neighborhood in eastern Columbus is located within the I-270 Loop and is easily accessible to downtown as well as to the Port Columbus International Airport, which is just minutes away. The boundaries of the neighborhood are I-670 to the west, 17th Avenue to the north, and railroad tracks to the south. The main thoroughfare in the area is 5th Avenue.
This area offers a plethora of job opportunities for residents. There are more than 900 businesses and more than 21,000 private-sector jobs within a two-mile radius of the neighborhood. Many employed in the area have white-collar jobs in managerial, technical, clerical, and professional occupations. In addition, more than 8,000 public-sector employees work at the Defense Supply Center Columbus just to the southeast of the Gateway community.
For those looking to continue their education or who are seeking jobs in education, two universities are located in the area. Ohio Dominican University is a four-year private university founded in 1911. This university has just over 3,100 students. It offers undergraduate degrees in more than 50 majors as well as several graduate degrees. Capital University, the oldest university in central Ohio and founded in 1830, is home to slightly more than 3,600 students. This school has an impressive 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
In addition to an excellent job market, this family-friendly neighborhood offers affordable housing; a safe environment; and plenty of area parks, pools, and playgrounds.
Krumm Park, one of the largest parks in the area, offers Gateway residents athletic fields, a basketball court, playgrounds, tennis courts, walking trails, and picnicking areas. The Krumm Park Community Center has an organized youth group that assists with community gardening, park clean-ups, and planning of teen activities for the community. Some of the activities for kids at the center include basketball, hockey, baseball, and gymnastics.
