Old North Columbus Neighborhood

The neighborhood of Old North Columbus, Ohio lies north of Downtown Columbus, not far from Ohio State University. The neighborhood’s boundaries run west along West Maynard Avenue, south along North High Street, east along West Patterson and West Norwich, and north along the Big Four railroad tracks The neighborhood’s official western boundary is considered the Olentangy River.

Old North Columbus homes were built between 1890 and 1940. The area has always been popular, and many homes have been updated, and are in excellent repair. Because of its proximity to Ohio State University to the south, Old North Columbus has many rentals in its southernmost region. Mostly three bedrooms, home values tend to be on the lower end in the greater Columbus area. The neighborhood’s largest concentration of homes lies to the east of North High Street, sitting atop some hills near the river valley.

Residents are always out in the street in Old North Columbus. Runners, walkers, and families take advantage of the area’s wide sidewalks and shady trees. With the eclectic shopping and dining options along North High Street, there are places to walk to.

The many universities and colleges in the Columbus area give Old North Columbus residents plenty of options. The Columbus College of Art and Design is a unique institution that helps students turn artistic passions into a vocation. Capital University is a private four year institution with a highly respected law school. The largest land grant university in the country, Ohio State University, sits just south on North High Street. This 50 thousand student public university offers a medical school, a law school, and a school of veterinary sciences.
