The design of the residential area includes a lake and a walking path with many trees and benches. The school system for the Mill Run community is the Hilliard School District, which is sought after by many parents.

Columbus and the surrounding suburbs place a high priority on setting aside park land and recreational facilities. Duranceau Park is located on the banks of the Scioto River. It is five minutes from Mill Run and features a playground, shelter house, picnic area, and the Ottawa Indian Village educational center. Hilliard Municipal Park has baseball diamonds, turf fields, and the Hilliard Community center. It features youth sports programs. Along the Scioto River is a section containing Hoover Park and Griggs Reservoir, with a boat ramp, marina, picnic areas along the river, and plenty of great fishing spots.

Mill Run is in the shadow of the Horseshoe, the stadium of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. More than 100,000 fans cram into the stadium every home game to watch the Buckeyes contend for a title. Tickets are hard to come by, and tailgates and football parties are the order of the day for many fans.
