Stark County, Ohio

Historic model ships, classic cars, and football – there’s really no other place like Stark County, Ohio – especially for those who enjoy unique destinations. It is home to the Blue Water Majesty Museum, a fascinating location that features hand-crafted ships made from bone and water buffalo horn. The Canton Classic Car Museum features antique and collectible cars, including a hand-carved 1937 Packard Hearse and a 1937 bullet-proof police car. The county seat, Canton, is a large city with several other unique landmarks and destinations. The McKinley National Memorial is the gravesite of William McKinley, the 25th US President who was assassinated in 1901. The William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum features a planetarium, Discover World, the McKinley Gallery, and the Street of Shops.

The First Ladies National Historic Site, also in Canton, includes the Education and Research Center, a bank building constructed in 1895, and the Ida Saxton McKinley historic home, built in 1841. Costumed docents take visitors on guided tours of both locations.

Canton is an industrial city and is home to many manufacturing companies, including Timken Company and Diebold. While most large shopping centers and malls are located in the suburban areas, downtown Canton features art galleries, shops, and cafes.

For those who enjoy flea markets, Hartville is home to a two-story, indoor flea market with over 800 spaces. Within its 100,000 square feet, you’ll find hand-crafted items, meat and produce, memorabilia, and Sarah’s Grille. Hartville is a small, charming village dating back to 1851.

Stark County is home to several cities, villages, and townships. Among these are Alliance, Massillon, North Canton, Canal Fulton, Louisville, Brewster, East Sparta, East Canton, Waynesburg, Minerva, Bethlehem, Marlboro, Sugar Creek, Paris, Perry, and Lexington.
