Classen North Highland Park Neighborhood

Located downtown and intersected by a major roadway, the community of Classen North Highland Park is a lively and exciting place to live. This vital neighborhood is within walking distance of a variety of distinguished state buildings, including the capitol.

Classen North Highland Park is bounded by Northeast 16th Street on the north, North Lincoln Boulevard on the east, Northwest and Northeast 13th Street on the south, and North Walker Avenue on the west. Interstate 235 runs through the center of the community, Interstate 35 to the east, Interstate 40 to the south, and Interstate 44 to the west. The area is mostly residential, although there is a church, and several shops and service establishments.

Residents of Classen North Highlands Park have plenty of activities to choose from. Harn Park sits just outside of the community to the west. This well-landscaped, oblong-shaped park offers strolling opportunities, as well as a chance to sit and soak up the sunshine. Mesta Park lies to the northwest, and has a playground and picnic shelter.

Just outside of the neighborhood to the northwest is one of the city’s most well-known monuments. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum commemorates the Oklahoma City bombings that occurred in April 1995. Outside of the memorial is the Survivor Tree, an American elm located in the parking lot of the bombed building. After the tragedy, the tree was almost cut down to recover evidence, and was in poor health for a time, but has since grown back stronger and healthier than before. It is considered a symbol of strength and hope, despite tragedy.
