Culbertson Neighborhood

Culbertson, though a small rectangular stretch of area in the center of Oklahoma City, is chock full of points of interest from entertainment and eating to medical in nature. Its major selling point is the Oklahoma State Capitol building and Governor’s Mansion located to the north of the neighborhood.

In addition to the Capitol and Governor’s Mansion, the headquarters of many state agencies sit to the north and west of Culbertson. For those looking for some Oklahoman history, the Oklahoma History Center is a state run center that features exhibits from local and historic Oklahoman culture. The center hosts several in-house exhibits in addition to online exhibits.

North Kelly Avenue makes the eastern border, separating Culbertson from Medical Community. NE 21st Street is the northern border which sits to the south of several city and state government structures. NE 13th Street is the southern border, lined with medical centers. North Lincoln Boulevard is the western border and acts as the boundary for the Oklahoma State Capitol to the north.

Nichols Court Park is a small, triangular plot of undeveloped land ideal for lounging, picnics and pick up games of frisbee. Several blocks south, the Culbertson Shopping Center is a small strip of local businesses including Deli on the Commons and Papa Dino’s Pizza and Grill.

Culbertson is also central to several medical facilities, including branches of the nearby University of Oklahoma. Located in the southern part of the neighborhood, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a branch of the school focused on medical education and residency. The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is next door to the Health Sciences Center and focuses on research for diseases including diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
