Oklahoma City at a Glance
Lincoln Terrace Neighborhood
Lincoln Terrace is the historic residential neighborhood northeast of downtown Oklahoma City. After the construction of the state capitol building, Lincoln Terrace developed adjacent to the Capitol Complex as an upscale place for important leaders in the state to live. Architectural styles are very diverse, from Mission and Mediterranean style with tile roofs to more traditional Craftsman and Prairie styles with the uniquely Oklahoman twist of masonry construction. Properties are in varying conditions, with plenty of renovated homes, fixer-uppers, and historic apartment buildings.
Lincoln Terrace remains a prominent address. The governor is just one of the distinguished residents, in the Governor’s Mansion along 23rd Street. The neighborhood is popular with upper level government employees and professionals at the large hospitals and technology research campuses found just a few blocks to the south.
Lincoln Boulevard is the main artery of Lincoln Terrace. It travels through the heart of both the Capitol and Medical districts, providing access to thousands of jobs. Lincoln also leads toward downtown Oklahoma City, within two miles of Lincoln Terrace. Downtown provides amenities such as NBA basketball, minor league hockey and baseball, concerts, theater, and museums. The Bricktown neighborhood of downtown is an entertainment area with a huge variety of dining and nightlife options.
Interestingly, despite being right at the heart of three major employment centers for the region, Lincoln Terrace also features the best-preserved example of Oklahoma’s territorial past. Harn Homestead is a preserved plot of land with original structures that is now a museum that takes visitors back to how this part of the city would have looked in the 1890s.
Lincoln Terrace is a well-located neighborhood for anyone with a job in the central city. The sense of former glory resonates from the deep porches of the old homes, and that is where the true character of the neighborhood comes from.
