Royal Oaks Neighborhood

A lush forest running throughout the center of Royal Oaks makes this urban community seem like a rural paradise. Many residences look out over thick pine groves lined with hiking trails. With such surroundings, it’s easy not to notice that the community contains a commercial complex as well.

Royal Oaks sits in the 73127 zip code. The community is bounded by Northwest 16th Street to the north, North Rockwell Avenue to the east, Northwest 10th Street to the south, and North Fordson Drive and North Anita Avenue to the west. Interstate 40 runs to the east, with Interstate 44 to the south. The area is residential, and its commercial complex lies in the southern section of the neighborhood.

A wide variety of amenities are available in Royal Oaks, including Lytle Park to the northwest. This small, scenic park has a picnic shelter and a playground. Also located to the northwest is J.B. Black Park, which offers a baseball field and playground.

For fun the whole family can enjoy, Lake Overholser sits a short distance away to the northwest is. Named after the city’s 16th mayor, this man-made, 1,500-acre lake was constructed in 1919. Visitors are permitted to fish off the piers, sail, jet ski, and boat. Located in the southeast corner of the lake is the Overholser Dam, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1917 and 1918 to catch water from the North Canadian River, the dam is 62 feet high and 1,258 feet long.
