Southern Oaks Neighborhood

The Southern Oaks neighborhood lies in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This traditional neighborhood offers ranch-style homes that rest on lots with mature trees and backyard patios. Redbuds, birches, bald cypresses, silver lindens, maples, and oaks shade yards. These trees provide a habitat for area birds like flickers, swifts, woodpeckers, vireos, flycatchers, cardinals, and sparrows.

The neighborhood is located west of South Western Avenue, south of Southwest 59th Street, west of South Walker Avenue, and north of Interstate 240. The neighborhood also sits near Interstates 35 and 44 to the west.

Because of its close access to the city’s interstates, residents enjoy visiting the Penn Square Mall, which is located at 1901 Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City. The mall is home to anchor stores like Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, and Macy’s. A large number of smaller, popular retailers, such as Coldwater Creek and Ann Taylor, populate the mall as well. Mall visitors can relax for a bite to eat at the Cheesecake Factory or the Pepperoni Grill.

Neighborhood residents also like to shop downtown at the Oklahoma City Farmer’s Market, which is located at 311 South Klein Avenue. Visitors can browse the market for produce and plants seven days a week from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Those seeking antiques or collectibles can visit the six acre facility from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday and on Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
