Clackamas County, Oregon

This beautiful location in the upper northwest corner of Oregon contains part of the Mt. Hood National Forest. Mount Hood, home of the Timberline Lodge, is the only year-round ski resort in the country. Timberline Lodge is a National Historic Landmark, built in 1935. It is a major tourist attraction, not only for its location on Mount Hood but because it served as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in the movie, The Shining. It was also used in the 1960 movie, All the Young Men with Alan Ladd and Sidney Poitier and in the 1952 classic, Bend of the River starring Jimmy Stuart and Rock Hudson. In addition to year-round skiing, visitors enjoy snowboarding, mountain climbing, camping, fishing, rafting, and hiking.

The county seat of Clackamas County is Oregon City. The Willamette River and the Clackamas River both run through the city, and Willamette Falls, the largest waterfall in the Pacific Northwest and the second largest in the nation, is 1,500 feet wide and 40 feet high.

Considered part of the Portland metro area, the area enjoys a strong economy with several high-tech companies in the area. Other cities in Clackamas County include Wilsonville, Rivergrove, Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, Happy Valley, Gladstone, and Johnson City.
