Concordia Neighborhood

Concordia is an older neighborhood located on the northeast side of Portland. It encompasses the area within the boundaries of NE Columbia Boulevard to the north, NE 42nd Avenue to the east, NE Prescott to the south, and NE 22nd Avenue to the west. Concordia covers the 97211 ZIP code.

Its proximity to the Broadmoor Golf Course and Portland’s International Airport makes Concordia an attractive neighborhood in which to live. The community’s eastern boundary, NE 42nd Avenue, is a direct route to the airport.

There are a large number of historic homes on the east side of the neighborhood. Many have been restored to their original beauty. The residents of Concordia have access to several community gardens and parks. Visitors can play football, softball, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and horseshoes. All of the parks have playgrounds, paths, picnic tables, and off-leash areas for dogs.

According to history, the Fernhill Park area was originally a large ravine. Local car thieves took stolen vehicles to the ravine, stripped them, and left them. Portland Parks and Recreation decided to restore the area and graded it, filling in the ravine. Later, grass was planted and a beautiful park was built for everyone to enjoy.

Alberta Street is Concordia’s commercial district. Numerous art galleries, privately owned boutiques, unusual restaurants, coffee shops, and craft shops line the street. There are no fast-food restaurants or chain stores in this area.

New Seasons Market at Concordia is the neighborhood grocery store and is known for its Rocky natural chickens and fresh Pacific Coast fish, much of which is purchased from local ranchers, farmers, growers, and fishermen.

Concordia is considered to be a very walkable neighborhood, with a walkability score of 77 out of 100. Many residents also commute by bicycle.
