Evergreen Neighborhood
Evergreen is a neighborhood for the outdoor enthusiast. The centerpiece is Millennium Plaza Park, fronting Lakewood Bay. This urban park hosts community events such as the weekly Farmer’s Market, the summer Movies in the Park, and the Moonlight & Music Sunday concerts. Paved pathways lead past trees, manicured lawns, a reflecting pond, a splash fountain play area, and an arbor with outdoor fireplace. The smaller Rossman Park is in the heart of town, offering a block-long, open green space to play basketball or just go for a stroll among the trees. Art lovers will be similarly pleased. Not only are there several galleries, but city fathers have also placed sculptures and other works of art along many of the pedestrian-friendly streets.
Some of the homes in Evergreen date back to the turn of the 20th century, but most were built between 1940 and 1970. Housing is a mixture of single-family homes, small apartment buildings, and condos. On some streets, homes, restaurants, and boutique shops share the same block. At South West A Avenue and North State Street is a concentrated collection of shops and restaurants, as well as the local transit station. Many of the apartments are on this end of Evergreen.
Public schools are all located outside of Evergreen including Forest Hills Elementary and Lake Oswego Junior and Senior High. The private Lady of the Lake Elementary is on Evergreen Road and is affiliated with the Catholic Church of the same name. Christ Episcopal Church is on the western end of town, only two blocks from the Oswego Lake Country Club & Golf Course. The Lakewood Theater Company, offering live performances, is nearby.
