Medford, OR Houses for Rent
Nestled in a protected valley and ringed by national forests, a small city with big outdoor adventures awaits. Medford, Oregon is located in the Rogue Valley between the Cascade, Siskiyou, and Coast Mountain Ranges. Being in this sheltered valley means Medford has a mild climate with less rain and snow than is common in other parts of Oregon. Because of its ideal weather, Medford has a long growing season and is home to many vineyards.
If you want to enjoy outdoor adventures such as hiking, backpacking, camping, and rock climbing in a city where the weather is ideal for such activities, then rent an apartment in Medford!
Things to Do in Medford:
The climate in Medford makes it ideal for vineyards, and wineries dot the landscape. In addition to touring wineries, area residents enjoy great food – this is where Harry & David began, after all. Festivals celebrating food and wine are abundant, from the Pear Blossom Festival to Taste of Summer. Taste of Harry & David is a great event featuring food and wine from the region.
From skiing at Mt. Ashland to playing golf to visiting museums, Medford residents enjoy a wide variety of outdoor adventures. Your new favorite place may be Crater Lake, a gorgeous location with the purest water on earth. Sheer cliffs, nearly 2,000 feet high, surround the stunning lake, one of the deepest lakes in the country. Crater Lake National Park is open year-round and is popular in winter for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Warmer months are popular with cyclists, who enjoy taking on the demanding 33-mile Rim Drive. Camping and hiking are also popular activities in the park.
The Bear Creek Greenway passes through Medford along Bear Creek. This 17.9-mile, paved and divided trail is ideal for bicycling, jogging, and hiking. This trail extends from Central Point through Medford and down through Phoenix, Talent, and Ashland, ending near the Ashland Dog Park.
After moving to a new Medford apartment, you’ll want to explore all of the unique features of this amazing landscape. Be sure to add the Oregon Caves National Monument to your list. A 90-minute guided tour will lead you 220 feet below the mountains, where the temperatures in the caves are a cool 50 degrees year-round. In addition to the guided cave tour, the park offers four hiking trails, a gift shop, and a lodge. An off-trail cave tour is also available.
Here’s an exciting day trip: travel three hours to the Oregon coast and visit the Prehistoric Gardens near Gold Beach. Even if you don’t have children, you’ll be amazed at the life-size dinosaur exhibits located throughout a dense rain forest.
When you want to stay closer to home, Medford offers terrific parks, including the 100-acre Bear Creek Park, bordered by the Bear Creek Greenway. This park contains a dog park, an amphitheater, a skate park, a playground, a community garden, and a BMX track. Alba Park is Medford’s oldest park. It features a gazebo, a fountain, and a Japanese gun from WWII. The annual Pear Blossom Run, a one-day festival, is held in Alba Park.
Another unique park in Medford is Prescott Park, which contains Roxy Ann Peak – a 30-million-year-old dormant volcano with a 3,576-foot summit. A 3.4-mile hiking trail leads up to the summit (about 950 feet) and provides stunning views.
Of course, there’s more to Medford that just enjoying the stunning landscape – although that will probably take up most of your free time. But if you enjoy shopping, be sure to visit the Shoppes at Exit 24, a huge 82,000-square-foot shopping plaza. If you prefer charming locally-owned shops in historic buildings, then head to Downtown Medford.
And as for fine arts – Medford offers terrific locations for that, as well. Be sure to visit the Rogue Gallery and Art Center and the Art du Jour Gallery to see works by local artists. Medford contains several museums, including the Southern Oregon Historical Society and Kid Time! Discovery Experience. For performing arts, attend a Britt Music & Arts Festival during the summer, or head to Ashland to attend the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
If you enjoy the slightly spooky, then drive 20 miles northwest of your new apartment in Medford and you’ll discover the Oregon Vortex, a unique and historic attraction with a mysterious phenomenon that has been perplexing visitors for more than 80 years. Be sure to tour the House of Mystery … and be prepared to be amazed!
What to Consider When Moving to Medford:

Medford is located just 27 miles north of the California border, roughly midway between Portland and San Francisco. The city was founded in 1883 as a train depot. It was a tiny town with one drugstore. In 1903, the drug store allowed a small library to share its space.
