Alameda is a quiet neighborhood with some upscale homes on larger lots and tree-lined streets. Residents who have the opportunity to live on Alameda Ridge have a stunning view of the West Hills, downtown Portland, and the Willamette River. This is considered a very walkable neighborhood.

The homes in Alameda are single-family residences in a wide variety of styles. They include larger custom designs, bungalows, Cape Cods, modest cottages, and ranches.

Alameda is close to I-5. Close to the neighborhood are coffee shops, a brewpub, and some commercial areas for shopping. Irvington is an older, historic neighborhood that overlaps Alameda on one side, offering residents a great place to take a walk.

The closest park to the Alameda neighborhood is Wilshire Park, at Northeast 33rd Avenue and Skidmore Street. The park is on nearly 15 landscaped acres. Visitors can enjoy both paved and unpaved paths on which to walk or bike, a soccer field, softball field, volleyball court, picnic tables, a horseshoe pit, off-leash dog area, and playground.

School-aged children attend Alameda Elementary School, Beaumont Middle School, or Grant High School. The Alameda Elementary School and a private, Catholi, kindergarten serving students through eighth grade school are located within the neighborhood. College students can attend the University of Portland, a private Catholic university, or Portland Community College.
