Beaumont – Wilshire Neighborhood

In Portland, Beaumont, meaning “beautiful mountain,” in French, lives up to its name. Residents of upscale Beaumont-Wilshire make use of its slightly elevated location and are rewarded with spectacular views of downtown Portland, the Willamette River, and the Cascade Range. As one of Portland’s most sought after commercial and residential neighborhoods, charming, classic older homes from the 1920s and ranch-style homes from the 1950s are proudly maintained by owners and renters.

Beaumont-Wilshire is pedestrian friendly, and has six miles of bicycle lanes. Residents and visitors can walk to shopping, restaurants, and services in Beaumont Village and the Hollywood District. The neighborhood is served by TriMet buses, with the Portland International Airport and Amtrak nearby.

Portland’s mild climate allows residents and visitors to take advantage of the city’s parks and golf courses.

Wilshire Park is located west of Beaumont-Wilshire. The 14-acre urban gem is packed with family friendly amenities, including a picnic area, playground, wading pool, and playing fields for soccer, softball, and volleyball. Even Fido is welcome here, since the park features an off-leash dog area.

The Rose City Golf Course is near the neighborhood and rich with Portland history. As the site of the city’s first landing field and a railroad track, the golf course is a nationally known, with challenging public course with long par 4s. Lessons by teaching professionals offer individual and group lessons.

The Oregon Maritime Museum is an educational experience with exhibits targeting the maritime heritage of Portland. Tours of the tugboat, the Portland, are available.

Held in August, the Fremont Fest is a celebration of Beaumont-Wilshire and draws thousands. Visitors mingle with locals to explore the neighborhood. Activities begin with a parade, followed by arts and craft booths, cake walks, and pub crawls. Entertainment is provided by local bands and street performers.
