Boise Neighborhood

Boise is a popular neighborhood across the Willamette River from downtown Portland. Lively North Mississippi Avenue is the main street of this diverse urban district with trendy shops and restaurants as well as exciting nightlife. At the same time, this Oregon neighborhood has two community gardens where residents demonstrate their commitment to an environmentally conscious life.

The Boise neighborhood, which is in zip code 97227, is bounded by I-5 on the west and North Skidmore Street on the south. Northeast Rodney Avenue marks the eastern boundary, and Northeast Fremont Street is the community’s the southern border. The Broadway and Steel Bridges lead across the Willamette River to the Pearl District and Downtown within minutes and have multi-use bike routes. The MAX light rail also serves the neighborhood, with stations within easy walking distance.

Southwest of Boise, the Rose Garden is an indoor arena that hosts the circus, the rodeo, sports, and concerts. Nearby is the Convention Center. Outdoor attractions near this neighborhood include a broad band of hillside parks west of the downtown area, including pastoral Washington Park and the zoo.

Boise-Eliot Elementary School offers a well-stocked library, active parent involvement, and the opportunity for every student to study music. Students attend this school from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, then continue to Roosevelt High or Jefferson High. Parochial and independent schools also serve the neighborhood.

Housing in Boise ranges from mature single-family homes with character to more recently built apartments and condominiums. This walkable neighborhood is close to everything, right in the heart of Portland.
