Forest Park Neighborhood

The community of Forest Park in Portland, Oregon is one of the least populated and developed parts of the city. The area consists of woodlands and green pastures with only a few well-hidden residential homes and properties. However, this community is far from being on the outskirts of the metropolitan area; it’s in the middle of it.

The community gets its name for its proximity to Forest Municipal Park, an eight-mile stretch of heavily forested hills on the bank of the Willamette River and within the Tualatin Mountain range. The neighborhood of Forest Park is on northwest side of the park.

The Tualatin Mountains separate the Northwest District—where the community of Forest Park is located—from the city’s eastside. The range and the foothills create a huge rural area between Portland’s downtown and the suburbs, and its major airport, Portland-Hillsboro Airport.

Two roads form the community’s border. Old Germantown Road forms its southern border. Germantown Road forms the west, north and eastern barriers. The two roads merge in the west and the east. In the east, it merges before a major mountain road, Skyline Boulevard.

Skyline Boulevard is often the road used to get to Forest Municipal Park. The nearest retail businesses are on this road. Carpe Diem Books and Skyline Tavern can be found on the section of the boulevard called Old Skyline Boulevard, south of the Germantown Road/Skyline Boulevard intersection.

The community’s main attraction is the park. Forest Municipal Park is one of the country’s largest urban forest reserves. Here, second-growth and some patches of first-growth trees cover more than 5,000 acres. The park has approximately 70 miles of trails for hiking or mountain biking.

Also, the park has several creeks such as Balch Creek and Miller Creek which are ideal for fishing. They support trout and salmon populations.
