Garden Home – Raleigh Hills Neighborhood

The Garden Home/ Raleigh Hills Neighborhood lies between Multnomah County, downtown Portland, and the city of Beaverton. Commuters who live on the west side of Portland and commute to the East side of the Willamette River often pass through Raleigh Hills using Canyon Road, Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, and SW Scholls Ferry Road to avoid the busy traffic on Highway 26. This large neighborhood winds through fir-tree-lined hills that are occupied by homes with incredible views. Downtown Portland is only a 10-15 minute commute by car. Washington Square, a large suburban mall, is also nearby.

The historic and expansive 43-acre Council Crest Park, created in 1937, is a neighborhood landmark. Council crest runs parallel to the Willamette River in Portland. It was first known as Talbot Mountain, then Glass Hill, then Fairmount, and finally Council Crest. The park was the site of an amusement park that featured a merry-go-round, miniature railway, and Ferris wheel from 1907 until 1929.The park is open seven days a week from 5 a.m. until midnight. It contains the highest point, 1,071 feet, in the entire metropolitan area. Its winding trails, off-leash dog park, vista point, and picnic areas draw Portlanders from all over the area.

Other nearby attractions include Washington Park, the Hoyt Arboretum, Portland’s Japanese Garden, the International Rose Garden, and the World Forestry Center.
