Downtown Historic District Neighborhood
Historic Downtown Easton is an Easton, Pennsylvania neighborhood. This neighborhood resides at the crux of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers, following these as a boundary on the eastern and southern sides. The northern boundary of this neighborhood loosely follows Highway 22, and includes the Easton Cemetery. The western boundary follows North 10th Street onto South 10th Street, and then meets the river.
Historic Downtown Easton is a pleasure to walk through. Filled with historic architecture and numerous sights of interest, it seems that nearly every building has a story. Some of these date back as far as the late 1700s and beyond. With everything from row homes to mansions, and then some, spending even a little time walking about this neighborhood can always turn up something interesting and new.
One of the big attractions in this neighborhood is the Crayola Factory, easily recognized by a giant box of crayons spilling from its rooftop. This attracts visitors from around the globe. Though it isn’t an actual factory, but a hands-on discovery center, visitors are able to learn about how the crayons are made. Themes and interactive activities change each quarter for a unique experience each time.
The National Canal Museum is another popular attraction in this neighborhood. This interactive museum relays the history of American towpath canals, and how mules were able to pull boats weighing as much as 100 tons through the canals.
Also residing in Historic Downtown Easton is the State Theatre Center for the Arts. This theater is home to the FREDDY Awards for significant achievements in high school musical theatre. These awards became the subject of a documentary, with its world premier in 2010.
