Carrick is located in the Pittsburgh City Council District 4 and is part of the 15210 and 15227 ZIP codes. Its boundaries are Borough Way and Wagner Street to the north, Stewart Avenue to the south, Saw Mill Run Boulevard to the west, and Becks Run Road and Brownville Road to the east.
The United States Department of Energy named Carrick the first “Cool Community” in the northern part of the country in 1997, a reflection of the area’s dedication to being environmentally conscious. Community groups have undertaken tree planting programs, weatherized homes and businesses for energy efficiency and championed the use of eco-friendly building techniques during the renovation of Carrick High School.
Along with Carrick High, the highly-regarded Concord and Roosevelt elementary schools are also in Carrick. The neighborhood has several major outdoor parks along with smaller playgrounds. Phillips Park originally hosted vaudeville acts, roller coasters and other forms of entertainment during the turn of the century. Today it’s a large, urban park with walking trails, a disc golf course and a recreation center. Volunteers Field has a baseball-only field that is one of the gems of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The Carnegie Library of Carrick is one of the largest libraries in the city, hosting weekly programs for children and adults along with readings and other special events.
