Morningside Neighborhood

The Morningside Neighborhood shares the 15201 and 15206 zip-code area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is settled on the Allegheny Plateau, and both the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River converge at the downtown delta to continue together as the Ohio River. The triangular area created by the waterways is referred to as the “Golden Triangle,” and preserved by the Point State Park. The city is home to over 400 bridges spanning the waterways.

The 1st Street Bridge is the western border. The Allegheny River is the north boundary. Highland Park Bridge is the eastern front. Stanton Avenue is the south border. In 2007 nearly the entire neighborhood was registered with the National Registry of Historic Places.

To the north of the Morningside Neighborhood is the Waterworks Mall, a regional shopping center to find the local Old Navy, the Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Petco stores. To the east of the neighborhood is the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium at Highland Park, with over 400 species of animals the zoo is home to thousands of exotic creatures, and more then 20 endangered species.

To the south of the Morningside Neighborhood is the local chapter of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization, a mentoring and role model service for children and young adults. For live music and entertainment, there is the Mr. Small’s Fun House venue to the west.

The neighborhood rentals are plentiful, and for aspiring artists, they are fairly reasonable accommodations. The area along the river is artistic, and not too far away from the many universities in the downtown area.

The Port Authority provides public transportation with scheduled bus routes that connect to the expansive light rail line. There are no bike lanes.
