Reserve Township Neighborhood

A northern neighbor of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Reserve Township is situated in Allegheny County about five miles from downtown Pittsburgh. This large township is located east of Interstate 279 and west of the Allegheny River. Bordering communities include Summer Hill, Northview Heights, Spring Garden, Troy Hill, and Millvale. Reserve Township encompasses the 15209 and 15212 zip code areas.

Reserve Township is largely residential, and as of July 2007, this neighborhood was home to approximately 3,765 people. Many of the single-family homes here are situated on spacious lots and surrounded by wooded areas. Several playgrounds can be found within walking distance of the township, including Northview Heights and Spring Hill Playgrounds.

A little over one mile west of this community, on the other side of I-279, is the Allegheny Observatory. This unique attraction is considered one of the foremost centers for astronomical research on the globe and is part of nearby University of Pittsburgh Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Several attractions can be found within five miles southwest of Reserve Township, just north of the Allegheny Riverfront. These include Allegheny General Hospital and Allegheny Commons Park. The latter is the city’s oldest park, home to attractions like Lake Elizabeth, Hazlett Theater, and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Also on this side of the river are PNC Park (home of the Pittsburgh Pirates Major League Baseball team) and Heinz Field (home of the Pittsburgh Steelers National Football League team).

Of course, residents need only cross the river to access a vast array of additional amenities, including live music venues, theaters, art museums and galleries, and higher education options.
