Stanton Heights Neighborhood

The Stanton Heights neighborhood is the only community in the city of Pittsburgh to be built on the grounds of a former private golf club. Sitting at the very top of Stanton Avenue, this is a quiet, low traffic area with no commercial traffic or businesses. Residents enjoy walking the tree lined streets, watching their children play ball on the “Pony” size ball field or on the playground behind Sunnyside School. The annual Fun Festival is a featured community event held every summer.

Residents find dry cleaners, hardware stores, pharmacies and grocery stores close by in the nearby neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill, East Liberty, and Bloomfield. With the Pittsburgh Transit bus lines available, they have short commutes into the Downtown area for employment, recreation or entertainment.

Stanton Heights residents find the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium a great place to take their children. It is situated on a 77-acre site that provides a natural habitat facility for thousands of animals. Exhibits include the Asian Forest, African Savanna, the Tropical Forest, the Aquarium World of Discovery, the Kid’s Kingdom, and Waters Edge, which is the only exhibit in the country with two underwater tunnels where visitors can see Polar Bears swimming underwater.

Schenley Park, close by in Oakland, is the home of Carnegie Museum and Library, Phillips Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and Panther Hollow Lake. In addition, there is an ice skating rink and swimming pool. Activities are planned throughout the year, including ice skating events and concerts on Flagstaff Hill in the summer.
