Punxsutawney, PA Apartments for Rent

While you may not have heard of this tiny borough roughly 30 miles north of Indiana, Pennsylvania, you’re sure to know the town’s most famous resident: Punxsutawney Phil. Every year on February 2 – Groundhog Day — this tiny community is overrun with thousands of visitors. A 1993 movie starring Bill Murray focused on the town’s Groundhog Day events. In the movie, Murray’s character is forced to repeat February 2 over and over again. At the end of the movie, he is so charmed by the town that he decides to make it his home. The movie, Groundhog Day, may be on to something – you could also find yourself charmed by Punxsutawney.

Punxsutawney was settled in 1816. Barclay Square, which dates back to 1822, is the historic town square. Surrounding the square, you’ll find charming brick buildings along wide sidewalks, housing everything from small cafes to boutiques to other businesses. Punxsutawney is downright whimsical – in fact, if you choose to rent an apartment in Punxsutawney, get ready to see straight-out-of-a-children’s-book statues of groundhogs, a “tree” clock, and fanciful store fronts with names like “Phil’s Burrow.” You’ll also find a War Memorial complete with cannons, the County Market, and – of course – Gobbler’s Knob. Phil’s Burrow is located at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library, where visitors can see Phil and his family from both inside and outside the library.
