Sewickley Heights Neighborhood

Sewickley Heights is a desirable community in northeast Sewickley, Pennsylvania, just a few minutes from the downtown area and less than one half-hour’s drive from downtown Pittsburgh. Other attractions are situated even closer to home, if one crosses the river via Interstate 79.

One of just a few large boroughs within Sewickley, this community spans a large amount of land west of Interstate 79 and northeast of the Ohio River and State Highway 65. It is surrounded by the boroughs of Edgeworth to the west and Sewickley Hills and Bell Acres to the north. The zip code for this Allegheny County is 15143. Because it encompasses such a large area, Sewickley Heights hosts several residential areas and commercial offerings. It was home to more than 980 people as of 2000.

The area became the host of the Allegheny Country Club in 1902, attracting an influx of wealthy residents. It was first established as a community in 1935. Most of the mansions and large estates that once graced this community have long since been demolished, but some of this original character can be seen in details like unique stone fences, and the country club still operates here today.

Many attractions exist just outside borough bounds. For outdoor recreation, Walker Park and War Memorial Park are both situated within walking distance. Of course, for more to see and do, residents of this community may travel into Pittsburgh, which hosts the Pittsburgh International Airport, several large shopping centers, and many larger parks and medical centers. Pittsburgh also offers a great many public and private golf courses, including the Montour Heights Country Club and Bon Air Golf Course. Many prominent higher education options also exist in this neighboring metropolis, including Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh.
