Clemson, SC Apartments for Rent

In the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a Southern cityscape featuring historical architecture is nestled on the banks of a popular lake. Like many small towns in the South, it offers a gorgeous downtown complete with brick-lined sidewalks and period lighting. Its neighborhoods are charming, complete with tall shade trees and pocket parks. But this isn’t just any sleepy little lakefront town in the South – this is Clemson, South Carolina. As the home of Clemson University, this city is a thriving college town with a youthful energy and a variety of fun things to do.

If you are looking for apartments to rent in Clemson, perhaps Clemson University is the reason. This top-notch university attracts students from all over the world. The university started in 1889 as a humble agricultural school. Today, it has five colleges, a 17,500-acre experimental forest, a 295-acre botanical garden, and several historic buildings. It is a land-grant, sea-grant university with nearly 22,000 students. US News and World Report ranks Clemson among the top 20 public universities in the US.

Of course, even if you aren’t a student looking for off-campus housing, you can still enjoy living in a college town! First, the college offers some spectacular house museums. Fort Hill, built in 1803, and Hanover House, a French Huguenot house built in 1716, are both open to the public.

And then there’s sports. The Clemson Tigers participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. When football season comes around, there will be paw prints – large, orange ones – all over Clemson.

Fun fact you can impress friends with after you move to your Clemson apartment: The Clemson Tiger Paw was introduced in 1970. It was created from a mold of an actual tiger paw print from a Bengal Tiger, which was sent to the ad agency responsible for the logo by the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. There’s a small indentation toward the bottom of the paw. The tiger whose paw was used for the mold had a scar from an encounter with a fish hook and it made it into the final design.

The paw is also slightly tilted about 10 degrees to the right, a nod to the 1:00 kickoff – a common start time for football games during that time. The designer of the paw was John Antonio, who died in 2013 at the age of 83.

While you’ll be spending a lot of time cheering on the football team at Memorial Stadium, the basketball team at Littlejohn Coliseum, and the baseball team at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, there’s more to do in Clemson than cheer on the 19 varsity teams.

Lake Hartwell is a popular boating and fishing destination, and the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains are great for hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and snow-skiing. The Upstate is home to roughly 30 waterfalls, ideal for weekend hiking trips. Some of these include Bee Cove Falls, Brasstown Falls, Laurel Fork Falls, and Whitewater Falls.

A must-see after moving to an apartment in Clemson is the Old Stone Church and Cemetery, built around 1797. This amazing piece of the past is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. John Miller, a newspaper publisher from London who moved to Charleston in 1783 and started the state’s first newspaper, is buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery.

Downtown Clemson features several shops and restaurants. Stop at some of the local shops after settling into your Clemson apartment and pick up everything orange: T-shirts, sweaters, hats, etc. While you’re there, stop in and have a bite – you can choose anything from a small pizza joint to an elegant seafood dinner.

This college town has a lot to offer everyone, so find your apartment to rent in Clemson today.
