Old Windemere Neighborhood

The Old Windermere community in Charleston is a neighborhood of renovated homes that are priced in the range of $350,000 to $500,000. This peaceful, tree-lined subdivision features three- to six-bedroom homes with upgrades such as new stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, new kitchen cabinetry, and revamped fireplaces.

Defined by houses with traditional brick exteriors on shaded lots, the Old Windermere neighborhood imparts a character that can only be found in Charleston. The detailed styling of the area residences only increase the effect. Features of many Old Windemere homes include spiral staircases with mahogany rails, slate floors, claw-foot bathtubs, and spacious backyards with gazebos. It’s nice to visit the area, especially in the summer, when many of the homes are bordered with camellias and azaleas and cooled by the canopies of pin oak and maple trees.

The homes in Old Windermere are also within walking distance to area shopping or the South Windermere Shopping Center, which is a base for such stores as Earth Fare for groceries, Cold Stone Creamery, Radio Shack, and Staples. Restaurants include Osaka, Iacofano Deli, and Starbucks. The College of Charleston, established in 1770, is also close by, as is The Citadel.

Residents in the community send their children to St. Andrews Elementary School, West Ashley Middle School or West Ashley Intermediate School, and West Ashley High School. The historic element prevails in this community, with its gable-roofed homes and large, inviting front porches with swings and potted ferns. Needless to say, the Old Windermere subdivision does indeed epitomize Charleston tradition and charm. Its pastoral and classic appeal makes it easy for any family to call it home.
