Village Green Neighborhood

The well established neighborhood of Village Green is situated just east of Charleston‘s Drayton Hall and Magnolia Plantation. True to its name, this aesthetically pleasing community of just a few hundred residents has well maintained homes and landscaping.

Neighborhood homeowners in Village Green are part of an association (with annual fees) and share local amenities, such as a community pool and play area. In addition, there are neighborhood tennis courts and miles of hiking and bike trails near Village Green. For those who enjoy fishing, local streams and ponds, as well as the Ashley River, provide plenty of opportunity.

Two major cultural attractions near Village Green are Drayton Hall and Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Drayton Hall is one of the finest examples of Georgian Palladian architecture and is the sole surviving plantation house along the Ashley River from the 18th century. Drayton Hall and its grounds are a National Trust Historic Site. Not only is this house worth touring, but Drayton Hall offers the perfect setting for family picnics, as well as marsh and river walks.

Also near Village Green is Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, which offers not only a fine historical tour, but provides fun for children with its wildlife and petting zoo, as well as boat tours of nearby marsh land. The most outstanding feature of Magnolia Plantation (which dates back to Colonial times) is that it is the site of the oldest public gardens in America.

Finally, those who travel a great deal (for work or pleasure) will appreciate Village Green’s close proximity to the Charleston International Airport. Less than a half-hour drive from the neighborhood, residents have an easy commute there.
