Residents of Columbia and the Edgewood neighborhood have an abundance of places to go and things to do in the city and surrounding areas. Area museums, art galleries, a river park, state parks, a world-class zoo and a fun park providing games, go-karts, batting cages, miniature golf, bumper boats and laser tag provide Edgewood residents plenty of fun and entertainment.

Part of South Carolina’s history is the beauty and charm of its Civil War era plantations. Columbia residents get a glimpse of the past by taking a tour of the ruins of the Millwood Plantation. Owned by Confederate General Wade Hampton III, who was also a US Senator and Governor of South Carolina, the 13,000-acre plantation and mansion were burned to the ground in 1865 when Sherman occupied the city.

Also in Columbia is the 7-acre Memorial Park dedicated to military personnel who gave their lives for their country. The park is in a quiet area with winding paths, landscaped plants and flowers and benches for reflecting. Monuments are located throughout the park memorializing veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II.
