Hopkins Suburban Neighborhood

Hopkins is a suburban community located about 10 miles southeast of Downtown Columbia, South Carolina. Hopkins is a CDP with about 2,882 residents. The most important detail about Hopkins – aside from its proximity to Columbia – is that it is close to Congaree National Park, the only national park in the state.

Just six miles from Hopkins, Congaree National Park covers 26,546 acres of old growth bottomland hardwood forest. The Congaree River meanders through the park, adding to its natural beauty as well as offering a unique kayaking and canoeing experience. Other park activities include walking along the boardwalk, hiking, fishing, and camping. Congaree National Park protects one of the oldest and tallest forests east of the Mississippi.

The Owens Field sports complex is another terrific location to explore when you find an apartment in Hopkins. This sports complex contains the only cement skate park in the area, and it is free to the public. The complex also contains ball fields and a track. Owens Field and the nearby Owens Field Airport are named for former Columbia Mayor Lawrence B. Owen.

The University of South Carolina, which was established in 1805 and offers more than 300 degree programs, is a short distance from Hopkins. Other nearby locations include Woodhill Mall, Landmark Square Shopping Center, and Cedar Terrace.
