Waterstone Neighborhood
The small South Carolina town of Fort Mill was established near a British Fort and grist mill on Steele Creek. Scot-Irish settlers established a small settlement in the 1750s and 60s. Textile mills brought growth to the community in the early 1900s. Some historic buildings from that era can be seen on Main Street. The neighborhood of Waterstone lies west of Highway 161, south of Gold Hill Road and is bounded on the east by Cobblestone Drive and south by Vandora Springs Road. It is a popular residential choice for those who work in Charlotte, North Carolina, just 20 minutes north. Neighborhood schools include Pleasant Mill Elementary, Springfield Junior High, and Fort Mill High School. Shoppers will appreciate the nearby Wal-Mart Supercenter, Lowe’s Food Store, and Food Lion grocery stores, as well as the Fort Mill Square Shopping Center.
Fort Mill Golf Club has tree lined fairways and new MiniVerde Bermuda grass on the 18 hole championship course which was recently renovated. The clubhouse, with dining and banquet facilities, and all tees and bunkers have been upgraded, as well as the stocked pro shop, practice area, and driving ranges. Popular with Fort Mill’s residents, it also draws Charlotte folks willing to make the 20 minute drive south.
Anne Springs Close Greenway is a favorite recreational site located 5 miles east of the Waterstone community. Over 2,300 acres of trees, creeks, lakes, and grassy open spaces, donated to the community by the Springs family. Residents appreciate the hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Many try the swinging bridge as they walk the trails through the park and scenic pastures where horses and goats graze near historic log cabins. Pets on a leash are also welcome.
